Active Recovery between training sessions is VITAL. It cannot be overlooked. From the time of my first best selling program - 7 Seconds to A Perfect Body (still the ultimate foundation for all I teach), I've stressed the importance of recovery.  You Need Active Recovery For Rapid Weight Loss, here is why...

Disease States Prevented by Active Recovery

Your muscles aren't repaired and growing during a workout. You aren't building new metabolism boosting, fat furnace blasting muscle in the gym. You do it AFTER - that's what recovery is. If you don't take the time to recover YOU WON'T. And you won't build muscle, you won't burn fat, you won't accelerate your metabolism. No, instead you'll be run down, compromise your immune system, feel like crap and act that much worse.

Recovery between workouts is crucial because it helps you get fitter, stronger, and leaner. But recovery doesn't just happen by accident.

"Active recovery" means you chase that recovery by doing some movement.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (for those that don't know I'm a consultant of Traditional Chinese Medicine and run a very busy private practice - check out The Meridian Acupuncture Clinic for more) we refer to this as the movement of Qi and Blood - it is a requirement for your good health and recovery from an any disease, be it a cold or flu to cancer. And in Chinese Medicine by the way, excess body fat IS A DISEASE STATE! You NEED TO MOVE.

Movement, even light movement increases the circulation or your blood and your lymphatic fluid to clear out waste products and replenish your body and nourish your tissues. More than that it will enhance your mood, make you feel fantastic, and release fabulous feel good hormones. ;-)

On an ACTIVE RECOVERY Day... just get your body moving for at least 20 minutes. Do something you enjoy — something that gets your heart singing and your limbs dancing...in fact dancing is a pretty good activity...though I'm more martially inclined. For my own part I train in martial arts waza, specific kata or pre-arranged forms or do some Tameshigiri (test cutting) practice. Here's a video example...

Others do Tai Chi, enjoy a nice brisk walk in the park, play light sports, swim, do yoga etc. Whatever works for you....just make sure it's an activity that leaves you feeling rejuvenated, motivated and excited for your next training session.

This activity should be relatively easy. Find an activity (outside of the gym) that will provide a change of pace and leave you feeling better than when you started. Fresh air is pretty fantastic...and in Slim in Seconds I'll share with you one of my top weight loss secrets - Using Active Recovery to Actively Burn up to 3 LBS of FAT a session.....
